The cost of living crisis continues to put a strain on society and how we live our lives. From turning the heating down to reducing the amount of water we use, efforts are being made to stretch budgets. We're all having to be more cautious with how we spend money but for some, the impact can be altogether more serious.
Homelessness is on the rise. According to UK charity, Shelter, there are now over 271,000 homeless people in the UK. Many of these people struggle to obtain simple things such as food and warmth.
There are many more beyond this who are struggling to make ends meet on a day to day basis and rely on the help of others to ensure they get what they need.
In response, Seasoned begin 2023 by proudly announcing that they will be working closely with Essex based charity Sanctus in 2023, supporting them with their efforts to help the rising number of homeless and vulnerable people.
Sanctus is a charity very close both geographically and personally to the Seasoned team.
For any events that take place between January and the end of April, Seasoned will commit to pledge £1 for every cover that is booked. The full amount will go directly to Sanctus to help them with providing food, clothes and essential items as well as a gateway to access the wider support offered by the Sanctus Hub.
Sanctus was founded in 2011, starting with the offer of free food to 8-12 people each day from a commercial cafe in Chelmsford, Essex. Within 8 months, following the closure of a local day centre, the decision was made to provide an all-day service for the homeless and close the commercial café service and open as a charity.
Over the years, demand grew and somehow many winters were managed in that small café space with thousands of home-cooked meals being produced.
The Hub now boasts a team of four offerings dedicated to support and signposting service. The work that team one had done for the previous 7 years, had created an incredible amount of trust, relationships and knowledge. The Café had worked so effectively and the Hub was similarly impactful for service user lives.
